Return a deposit on time, to the right address
Once a tenancy ends you are on a clock. Most provinces set a deadline to return the deposit or account for what you withheld, and several of them double the deposit if you miss it. Wealthru now shows you that deadline where you are already working, and gives you somewhere to record the address the money is going to.
Where the deadline shows up
As soon as a move-out date is recorded on the tenancy:
- The lease page lists Return the deposit in its next actions once the deadline is close or has passed. It does not nag you before then.
- The move-out steps, on Settle deposit, show the deadline, how many days are left, and whether a forwarding address is on file.
The deadline is worked out from the recorded move-out date and your province's rule. Where a province sets a process rather than a number of days, we say we have no deadline on file rather than inventing one.
Every figure carries a PREVIEW mark until it has been reviewed for that province. This is tooling, not legal advice. Check the deadline and what you may withhold with your provincial tenancy authority.
Record where the money goes
Your tenant can add a forwarding address from their own portal, and that is the better route because they are the one who knows it. When they have, you see exactly what they typed, and when.
If they told you another way:
- Open the tenancy, then Move-out steps and Settle deposit.
- Under Forwarding address, type it in and select Save address.
It is one address shared with your tenant, so the two of you can never be looking at different ones. Recording or changing it is written to the audit trail, and the trail records that it changed rather than the address itself.
You cannot record one on a tenancy that has been archived or retired as entered in error.
What your tenant sees
When you settle the deposit, each deduction you entered reaches your tenant with its own label and amount, in their portal and in the settlement email and text. Write labels a tenant can understand, because that is the version they will ask you about.
