Give notice that you are moving out
Planning to leave? Put it in writing from your portal so the date is on record, with the day you told your property manager. That record is what your notice period and your deposit return are worked out from.
Steps
- Sign in and open Your home.
- Find the Moving out card and select I am planning to move out.
- Enter the last day you will be in the unit. That is the day your tenancy ends, not the day you are telling them.
- Add a note if there is anything they should know. It is optional and only your property manager sees it.
- Select Give notice.
What happens next
Your property manager has to confirm it. Until they do, nothing about your tenancy changes and your rent carries on as normal. Your portal shows the date you gave and that it is still waiting on them.
Once they confirm it, the card changes to say your tenancy ends on the agreed date, and you will see that date at the top of your portal too. Your last month's rent is worked out to that day.
How much notice your province expects
The form tells you before you choose a date. When you open it you will see the usual minimum for your province and the earliest date that meets it, so you can pick a date that works rather than find out afterwards.
If the date you type is sooner than that, a note appears beside it while you can still change it. It never stops you: it is your notice to give, and we record the date you chose.
The figure carries a PREVIEW mark until a lawyer has reviewed it for your province. This is tooling, not legal advice. Check the notice you owe, and the form your province requires, with your provincial tenancy authority.
Changing your mind
- Different date? Select Change the date and enter a new one. It replaces what you sent, it does not send a second notice.
- Staying after all? Select I am staying. The notice is withdrawn and your tenancy is untouched.
You can do both only while your manager has not confirmed it yet. After that, talk to them.
If your manager does not record it
They can decline, and they have to say why. Their reason appears on the same card, so you know what to change and can give notice again with a date you both agree on.
